What's Really Important?

Dec 31, 2023    Brock Peters

This is the time of year when we reflect on the year that was and look forward to the year to come. I actually really like this time of year partially for that reason. As a sports buff, I love watching all of the story lines in the world of sports over the last 365 days. However, I also recognize that in the grand scheme of things, that stuff is really insignificant. My challenge to you (and myself) is as we reflect on the year that was and look forward to the year to come, we focus on things from an eternal perspective. 2 Corinthians 4:18 says, “So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” This is a great reminder from Paul that far too often we focus on temporary things. He’s reminding us that our tendency is to focus on temporary things while missing far more important, eternal things. As you look forward to 2024, take Paul’s advice and look towards things that offer eternal significance.
