Missions Sunday

Speaker: Pastor Steve Byrens

Acts 1:8 (NLT), “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

LIFEPOINT: Every believer has a role to play in completing God’s mission for the world!

What comes to mind when you hear the word Missionary? Maybe it’s the sound of a knock on the door as a couple of young men stop by your house handing out information on the Mormon Church. For some, it’s the image of a couple heading off into the Amazon Jungle with only the most basic supplies, looking to share the Gospel with an unreached people group. For others, missions is an annual trip to a third world country where you go to meet the practical needs of the people who live there and to help share the Gospel.

More and more in our secular world today, the question is being asked: Is it even right to go to another country and to share your religious beliefs with the local people? Isn’t that intolerant and harmful? Isn't that the excuse the colonizers used in the past? With this as a backdrop, it’s not surprising that a recent Barna poll showed that the concept of missions is causing great conflict in the hearts of young believers today. This needs to be addressed within the local church, because any careful reading of the Bible makes it clear that God’s main goal for His people is missions. His desire is for believers to share the Gospel message in a way that helps make His Name known throughout the world.

In today’s service, we’ll explore an important truth: God is a God of Missions, and every believer has a role to play in completing God’s mission for the world!

In His Service,

Pastor Steve
