Easter 2023 - Resurrection Promises

We hold a presidential election every 4 years in our country. As part of the build up to each election, candidates carefully construct speeches, sound bites, and commercials. Their goal is to help persuade the American people to vote for their party. Despite the ever increasing reach of new technologies, personal appearances are still the most effective method to gather votes. Throughout history, political leaders have used carefully crafted speeches to inspire their people with hope for the future. A well-delivered speech can comfort those who are grieving and motivate whole populations to reach for new heights.

You may remember the words of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address: “Four score and twenty years ago.” Or the preamble from the Declaration of Independence “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created and equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.” Martin Luther King Jr helped shape the civil rights movement with his famous quote, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

But of all the words ever spoken, none have echoed down through the ages and changed the course of history more than the words spoken by an angel at an empty tomb in Jerusalem: "He is not here. He is risen!" Easter Sunday services provide a unique opportunity to focus our hearts and minds on the significance of Jesus’s resurrection to our faith.
