1 Samuel - Lesson 4, "Who Sits on the Throne?"

1 Samuel chapter 8 represents one of the darkest periods in the history of the nation of Israel. It marks the time when God’s people committed spiritual treason, turned their backs on God, and chose to be like the rest of the nations. When we (as a nation or individuals) turn our backs on God, He allows us to have what we are asking for. Paul gives us a strong warning in Romans 1. We would be wise not to follow in the footsteps of Israel. We need to bow to the only true king: Jesus! And unlike the earthly kings that Samuel warned the people about, Jesus doesn’t take from the people and enslave them. Instead, King Jesus came to serve and set His people free.
