1 Samuel - Lesson 5, "The King the Israelites Wanted"

We cover a lot of ground today as we learn about Saul’s anointing and his early successes as Israel’s King. Unfortunately, we also see that all earthly kings will eventually disappoint. Yahweh, the one true God, uses the Israelites' misguided desire for a king to point towards the one king that will never disappoint- Jesus. Even in Israel’s rebellion, God remained faithful and merciful to his chosen people. He used this broken monarchy system to raise up the perfect King- the one who sits at the right hand of God on an eternal throne. Jesus is not a king who will take and take from His people. Instead, He has come to set His people free!
