The Gospel According to John - Lesson 7, "You Must Be Born Again"

Jesus is not interested in you being more "religious." He wants to make you new. In John 3, Jesus tells Nicodemus, a respected religious leader, that even his knowledge of Scripture and commitment to religious practices cannot earn him eternal life. The same is true for us today. Going to church, knowing the Bible, and trying to be a good person are not substitutes for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We need more than behavior modification; we need heart transformation. Through faith in Jesus and the renewing work of the Holy Spirit, God gives us new life. The question isn't whether you look religious on the outside, but whether you've been made new through Christ.
