The Gospel According to John - Lesson 2, "Prepare the Way"

One of the things I love most about John the Baptist is that he understood exactly who he was. And, perhaps even more importantly, who he wasn’t. John had a growing following, people were traveling to hear him, and he had every opportunity to make himself the center of attention. Instead, he continually pointed people toward Jesus. His words, “He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less,” are a powerful reminder for all of us. Our lives are not ultimately about building our own reputation, receiving recognition, or drawing attention to ourselves. We are called to be voices, witnesses, and road signs that point people toward Jesus. My prayer is that when people encounter us, they would see the grace, love, humility, truth, and life-change that comes from knowing Christ, and that they would walk away not saying, “What a great Christian,” but, “What a great Savior.”
