Living in Babylon - Lesson 10 "Trading the Truth for a Lie"

From the Heart! - The Bible makes some powerful claims about truth: God is the ultimate source of truth, Jesus came to bear witness to the truth, and creation is designed to reveal the truth about our Creator. All three of these divine sources teach us about God and our dependence on Him. Satan has one goal: To get us to “trade the truth about God for a lie” by rejecting God’s design for human flourishing and embracing his plan that leads to our destruction. This is why we must learn to worship God in Spirit and truth, desiring that His will would take place in our lives. 

God’s will for humanity is reflected in His design of this world. To help us find His will, God gives us three foundational spheres of authority in His Word that are necessary for human flourishing: Marriage and the family (Gen. 1&2), The Church (Matthew 16), Civil government (Rom. 13). These authority structures are for our benefit and necessary because we live in a fallen world. Left to our own sinful impulses we would destroy ourselves and each other. That’s why we see a predictable pattern in this world. Trusting God always leads to wisdom and goodness, Rejecting God always leads to foolishness and evil. 

Even as believers we have to make a choice. Will I trust God and embrace what His Word tells me about this world and my place in it? Or will I reject God’s direction for my life and go my own way? If you want to worship God, you have to embrace the truth of His design. Idol worship always starts with a rejection of that truth!
