Whole Hearted
n Matthew 6:21 Jesus ties our ability to invest our time wisely to the desire of our hearts: “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” The desires of your heart are the things that you find most valuable. They are the things you are willing to prioritize through your actions. If your heart is set on temporary earthly pleasures, you will prioritize your time, energy, and resources on things that make your life easy and comfortable. In other words, most of your time and resources will be focused on yourself.
But if your heart is set on eternal things, you will begin to shift your priorities. Your time, energy, and resources will be focused on things that advance God’s Kingdom. You will desire to share your time and resources helping others grow in their faith.
However, you can’t do this in your own strength. Living this way requires divine help. It is only possible when God’s Spirit is in control of your life and His Word is shaping your heart. King David seemed to understand this truth very well. Listen to his words in Psalm 40:8 (NLT), “I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.” As God’s Word shapes your heart, his desires will become your desires.
Through today’s study in Ephesians 3:17-21 we discover an important truth: If you want to pour out your life for Christ, you have to allow Him to pour into your heart through a close personal walk with Him.
