Steve Byrens
Elder & Senior Pastor
I was raised in Olivet and have spent most of my life in the mid-Michigan area. My wife Sonia and I met in 1990 and have been married for the past thirty-two years. We have three children and seven grandchildren with number eight on the way.
The first seven years of our marriage were difficult primarily because we weren’t believers. I battled addiction, while my wife struggled with issues from a difficult childhood. Everything changed for us in August of 1997, when my wife was born again through faith in Jesus Christ. Three months later I also surrendered my life to Christ.
Not only did the Lord deliver us from our brokenness in the past, but He also provided us with a new purpose for our lives. In 2003, we helped plant Gracewalk Community Outreach (the forerunner to City on a Hill) in Olivet. In 2008, after serving 2 years in Guatemala as missionaries, we were called back home to serve in full-time ministry leading CHCC. Along with my pastoral duties, I was able to complete a Master of Divinity through the Seminary at Liberty University.
Although we’ve faced many trials and setbacks over the past 20 years, God has faithfully built this church and blessed us with a wonderful church family.
