Why We Can Trust The Bible

In two weeks we will be celebrating Easter Sunday, the day Christians set aside to focus on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This historical event is considered the cornerstone of our faith. It was the empty tomb, found 2000 years ago by a handful of Jesus’ disciples, that was the launching pad for the Christian church. It was the belief that Jesus defeated death, which fueled a willingness to follow His command to take the Gospel message to the ends of the earth. The apostle Paul emphasizes this point in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 14 when he writes, “I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, …14 And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless. ” The first Christians based a major part of their witness to unbelievers on the reliability of the historical resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This means that Christian faith is not a blind faith. It is a faith that is based on reasonable evidence. Because the Bible plays a major role in providing that evidence, today’s message will focus on building a case for why we can trust the Bible. It is my prayer that by the time we leave today’s service, we will do so with a deeper confidence that the words we read in our Bibles are reliable and true!
