The Blood of the Covenant
Exodus Part 2 - Lesson 4 "The Blood of the Covenant"
Speaker: Pastor Steve Byrens
Exodus 24:6-7 (NLT), “Moses drained half the blood from these animals into basins. The other half he splattered against the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it aloud to the people. Again they all responded, “We will do everything the Lord has commanded. We will obey.”
LIFEPOINT: Our sin is so serious to God that it requires blood to overcome its effects and power. Through faith in Christ’s blood sacrifice, our sins are forgiven and we are made new!
There are different strands that run through our lives. These strands are the things that shape our identities. They hold together the stories of our lives by providing them with meaning beyond ourselves. Some of those strands only last a short time, like a failed relationship, or an intense season of pain. But others last years, decades, even become life-long.
There are also many strands that weave through the Scriptures: Themes that tie the different life-stories all together in an amazing and unified way. It really is miraculous that these seemingly disjointed stories of people who lived in the distant past, come together to form One grand metanarrative, from beginning to end.
Of all the strands that tie the biblical story together, Exodus 24 picks up on one of the most important and powerful: The fact that God always confirms His Covenants in blood. As we study this chapter today, we will discover why this is true: Our sin is so serious to God that it requires blood to overcome its effects and power!
